Albert Schweitzer was the son of a Lutheran Pastor who taught him to play music. He was born in Alsace which was then part of Germany.

Early Years

Schweitzer’s early love for music never dissipated. Following high school he enrolled in Paris to study music and philosophy He became a gifted organist, who followed with interest the musical interpretation and style of Johann Bach. He would continue this interest throughout his life, and even gave musical performances to raise money for his humanitarian interests.
