A good theme can make the difference between a run-of the-mill party and one that your guests will remember for years to come. Make the effort to stand out from the crowd, and remember - it's all in the detail.
English Garden Party
Guests should dress as they would for a regatta - boaters and deck shoes for the boys, pretty (but chic) summer dresses for the girls. Decorate with bunting, English flowers and white tablecloths, and have drinks served in teacups to really give this theme charm.
Food can be kept simple - go for finger sandwiches, scones and strawberry tarts. As for beverages, gin-based drinks like Pimms with lemonade or tonic are quintessentially English. For a really personal touch, make your own ice lollies with the Pimms and lemonade - moulds can be picked up very inexpensively at most supermarkets. For any non-drinkers, simply serve tea - hot or iced according to the weather.
